Meet the Artist: Aimee Stevens

projects for Human Rights Watch, creating illustrations for animation.

Aimee also enjoys facilitating workshops for adults and children, sharing her skills and encouraging people to enjoy their own creativity and make stuff!
Aimee has always loved travelling. Her partner is from California, and they spend wonderful summer vacations in the family home in Long Beach, on the marina. They love exploring up and down the magnificent Californian coast and enjoy long hikes and boat rides around Long Beach with friends and family. Aimee, Win, and their daughters have all learned to paddleboard in Alamitos Bay. Aimee can often be found happily sketching with her younger daughter and taking in the scenery. The inspiration for the Wooden Boat Festival poster came from drawings of beautiful boats at Marina Pacifica in Long Beach, CA.

Aimee has always loved to draw. When she was a small child, her favourite thing was creating illustrated books for her grandparents. This continued throughout her schooling, and she was on the path to study art at university when she switched to pursue her other passion, English Literature at Liverpool University. After graduation, Aimee sought travel and adventure and joined a graduate teaching programme in Japan. She spent two brilliant and inspiring years immersed in Japanese life and culture—a big influence to this day on her style of illustration. Aimee returned to the UK to study photography at the London College of Communication in the University of the Arts. She gained a postgraduate qualification and worked part-time in Tate Modern’s education department. After interning at various magazines and photography studios, Aimee decided to change tracks again. She was driven to work with people and to make a difference in the community. She worked in several different roles in non-profit organisations in the homelessness sector. Life events and the birth of her first daughter took Aimee back home to Oxford, where she had grown up. Her family has settled in a plant- and cat-filled home in the beautiful market town of Witney, West Oxfordshire, on the edge of the Cotswolds. Aimee is now a freelance illustrator, going back to where she started! She spends her days bringing stories to life by illustrating children’s books, creating greeting cards, and other wonderful projects involving colourful and quirky pictures. She is most proud of her
