Pleiades

Pleiades is a traditional gaff-rigged Eastport Pinky Schooner. Glad Tidings, Howard Chapelle’s personal yacht designed from inferred lines of various derelicts on the East Coast, was the model for Pleiades built by Patrick Stallcup which launched in 1990. Between 1990 and the early 2000’s Pleiades limped from owner to owner descending into increasing states of disrepair until the young Pete Rust bought her and began restoring her. Pete lived on Pleiades for a while in Port Townsend, working on her on his time off until she reached a level that attracted the interest of a man name Albert Fischer who commissioned a full refit. The refit was extensive and is where many of the unique features of Pleiades were added to the boat. Her tanbark sails were made by Port Townsend Sail Company and her windlass along with other bronze fittings were made at Port Townsend Foundry. Fischer eventually sold the boat and she made here way into the care of Hoyle Hodges who began chartering her and using her to transport produce to farmer’s markets in Olympia as a way to attempt emission free, farm to table commerce in the modern age. Pleiades came under the care of the Kamiya-Wilson family in late 2023 and has since protected them as they have begun learning to sail with their three young boys.
