TUMBLEHOME is thoroughly my boat…I designed her, built her, sail her, and maintain her. Because wood is such a lovely material to work and live with, she has a cedar strip-planked hull with a plywood deck, all sheathed with epoxy/glass. Natural exterior wood is all teak, while the interior is a blend of woods including Alaskan yellow cedar, Honduras mahogany, Koa, and red cedar. There are no painted surfaces in her interior. TUMBLEHOME’S hull shape exhibits curvy tumblehome for good stability, a wineglass midsection, and a “bustled” stern. Her canoe stern could be described as a transom boat faired to a natural canoe shape for low drag. For windward performance she has a spruce rotating wing mast.
