I wanted to learn how to build a boat that I could row on local Kansas City lakes and rivers, so I settled on this design from John Gardner’s book,Classic Small Craft. I built it in my basement on weekends and evenings. I stopped riveting before 7:30 so that the kids could sleep. I rowed it across the Missouri River on the 50th anniversary of Tenzing Norgay’s and Sir Edmond Hillary’s climb of Mt. Everest.
