Lux is Latin for ‘Light’. Lux began her career in the early 1980’s as the ‘Spirit of C-Troop’ – a training vessel for a troop of Sea Scouts in Vancouver, BC. Lux is one of seven sixerns built by the Whaler Bay Boatyard on Galiano Island. The Sea Scouts sold the boat to an anachronistic Viking society, who used her as a parade float and for an annual sail on the Fraser River. More recent owners entered the boat as a parade float in the Nanaimo Bathtub Race, where she won awards and raised significant funds for the B.C. Children’s Hospital. Last year she was acquired by Stephen & Barb Mohan, who restored the boat to sailing condition again. Lux won ‘Best Open Sailboat’ at the 2023 Victoria Classic Boat Festival. Lux now sails in tandem with her sister sixern ‘Quinque’ (a past Wooden Boat Festival attendee) as a sailing and rowing charter boat in Maple Bay, BC. See more of Lux at www.traditionalboats.ca
