KHOYA

In Festival Boats, Festival Boats 2024

KHOYA Heals~ a 19 year old college lady recovered from several near-death experiences by time on the water sailing her little vessel. Circumnavigating Vancouver Island in 1979 was a first awakening adventure, opening an immersive, emerald marine world. KHOYA proved to be a stout and handy ketch ~ easily handled and maneuvered beautifully, especially with a 2 propeller prop. Later sailing down the coast to San Diego and then into the open blue to Hawaii, KHOYA self-steered marvelously with double headsails using crossed sheet-to-tiller lines. The cat aboard enjoyed catching plentiful flying fish back in 1980. Life aboard in Hawaii was a tropical charm. Returning to the PNW unceremoniously on a barge gave the owner time to re-rig and ultimately complete University courses & even an advanced degree. KHOYA became a home afloat during Expo 86 in Vancouver, BC and escort for the Native Canoe revival from 1984 ~ 1993 across ancient waters ways and up to Bella Bella, Canada complete with Native elders aboard. With such a rich and rewarding history, KHOYA’s energy transformed into an arbolesque living spirit; indeed a family partner. As such, she continues to be treasured today. After decades of patience, re-powering with a 3 cylinder Yanmar, refits and more; this pedigree L. Francis designed classic vessel is yearning at her docklines for more adventures exploring our fine Salish Sea! Time in the harbor continues to be a delight as a waterfront “object d’arte”~ and offers splendid maritime-sublime experiences underway.
