20 FOOT WOODEN MOTOR LAUNCH Asking $25,000 OBO
This beautiful fan tail round bottom craft was designed and built by Cliff Niederer. She was built with care of the finest materials: the keel is of Port Orford cedar with purple heart; the stem is of purple heart; the stern post, deadwood, horn timber and stern are all the finest Honduras Mahogany; frames are steam bent white oak; planking is Honduras Mahogany; the deck is solid teak; cabin is Honduras Mahogany. All fasteners are silicon bronze (bolts and screws). The fittings for the rudder and steering assembly were custom made of manganese bronze, the rudder stock is stainless steel machined to fit the rudder fittings. This craft is ballasted with 500 lbs. of lead. The boat sits on a custom made trailer, double axle with a breaking system for safety.

This craft is powered by a two cylinder fifteen horse power Yanmar diesel engine turning a three blade prop. This engine provides more than adequate power. The engine was purchased new and installed by Cook Engine, Portland, OR (2022).

Dimensions: LOA: 20 ft., Draft: 2 feet (plus), Beam: 6 feet, displacement: unknown.

This craft was designed to be used as a day boat in sheltered waters, i.e. lakes and protected bays, it is not intended as an ocean craft or for use in heavy weather, such as “small craft advisers.” This lovely vessel has had three sea trials in Mission Bay (San Diego) and shows promise as a nice day boat. It is likely however, that a new owner would want to redesign the cabin to allow for better comfort.
Cliff Niederer has built some 15 wooden boats including a 41 ft coaster style schooner which he cruised extensively and documented in his book: Schooners, Seekers, and Seas. (for sale $25.00 ask Mia)
