The Cocktail Class Wooden Race Boat or Skua first appeared in Rudder Magazine in 1939. Charles McGregor designed this small racing skiff to take advantage of a new building material — plywood. The fun of this boat is both building it from the Chesapeake Light Craft, stitching and gluing the complete kit, then racing it.
J.W. Widmayer built my boat in Annapolis, Maryland after taking the CLC class on stitch and glue boat building.
The 2014 CCWBRA National Champion, Zach Ditmar at Prop Speak Magazine told me that a choice CCWB was owned by Mr. Widmayer and might be available. I was delighted to buy the Annapolis boat and then figure out a way to get the little Orange Crush from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast!
The Prop Speak magazine in Annapolis, MD is considering doing a story, with my photos, featuring Orange Crush, the little orange racing boat — in it’s long transcontinental journey.
