This is a traditionally built cedar lapstrake hull on oak frames, footed lug sail, and no engine. After sailing and owning fiberglass boats for many years, I grew to want a pure sailing, wood boat that would be like riding in wind-powered fine furniture, open hull, just a simple sailboat that sails and rows easily. For years I planned on building a Herreshoff Coquina with mahogany plywood and epoxy got a shop and most of the equipment together then this boat came up on Yachts.com. I’d rather be sailing than building, so I changed plans and bought it. It had been built to order by a man in Maine who unfortunately passed away soon after delivery in 2012. It was in storage since then, basically forgotten until it was rediscovered and put up for sale, an old boatshed find in short. I was ecstatic to get it! I was the first person to put it in water in 2019. I am not experienced sailing around here, so I’ll take all the advice experienced sailors can tell me. I am looking forward to sailing on the Sound this summer!
