Talaria has been cruising the Northeast since she was built in 1953 at the Hinckley yard in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The Hinckley 36 “standard” sloop was only ever built in wood. She is very similar to the Hinckley Pilot 35, which was also initially built in wood but which Hinckley began producing as one of their first fiberglass production boats.
In 2013 she had major structural repairs done by Myles Thurlow of Martha’s Vineyard Shipyard, bringing her back into excellent condition. After the mast snapped in 2018 following a rigging failure, we bought her on Martha’s Vineyard and a had new mast and new rig built by Jim Elk of Elk Spar and Boat Shop in Bar Harbor, Maine. He used Sitka spruce sourced from Port Townsend. Her home port was Port Jefferson, NY until April 2021, when we trucked across the country to her new home in Seattle, where we are will soon also move.
