Isabel

In Festival Boats 2017

Isabel was built by Lyman in 1948 in Sandusky, Ohio. During WW II, Lyman started using plywood for their Navy contracts. They learned the advantages of plywood and started using it in their runabouts. Isabel’s plywood, lapstrake planking is one reason why after 70 years, she remains strong, stable and durable.

Isabel has two outboards: her “show” outboard is a 1956 Evinrude Big Twin 30 HP which remains in excellent condition. The new 15 HP makes Isabel handier as well as cleaner and quieter. Her home port has been West Sound on Orcas. With Isabel, it’s like hopping between islands in a sports car.
