
The Grand Banks 36, a classic trawler design, was initially built with a wooden hull until 1973, when the company transitioned to fiberglass construction, while maintaining the traditional look. The Grand Banks 36, launched in 1965, was a groundbreaking design that redefined coastal cruising and spawned a range of boats that Grand Banks continues to refine. The first Grand Banks yachts, including the 36, were built in Hong Kong until 1968, when production moved to Singapore. Grand Banks boats were known for their traditional craftsmanship, flawless wood joinery, and classic styling.
In 1973, Grand Banks transitioned from Philippine mahogany to fiberglass construction, but did so without fanfare, making the fiberglass models look identical to the wooden ones. The Grand Banks 36 Classic features a semi-displacement hull, long keel, hard chines, and a deep forefoot, contributing to its seaworthiness. Tranquil is an excellent example of a 54 year old classic that has been lovingly kept and in a boathouse most her life.
