Onward was built by High School students and adult mentors during the 2010-2011 school year. The designers were local geniuses Kit Africa and Jim Franken, with rig and sail design by Wayne Chimenti.
This is an “Oceanic Dory” – so, typical dory lines but modified for purpose. The hull lines were designed to carry Mick Bird on a row around the world. That boat had a cabin and no sailing rig, but Onward’s hull is exactly the same. Mick, Kit and Jim built the boat in PT. Mick rowed over 10,000 miles across the Pacific.
