Back in 2020, as covid was raging, I decided I needed a project to keep me busy. I was looking at boats on YouTube and came across a man with a small plywood run-about that was really beautiful and had that classic Chris Craft look. I did some research and found his boat was called a Squirt and was a design by Glen-L. I knew I needed a small boat that could be built in my shop where it would be protected from the elements. I ordered the plans and began the build which took two and a half years working part time. I learned a lot during those years as I had never built a boat before. I finally finished it, along with its trailer, the day before she was entered in the 2023 Wooden Boat Festival. Misty B, named after my dog, is ten feet, eight inches long, four feet, four inches wide and 16 inches high. Her plywood is 1/4″ marine grade Okume and her frames and transom are Sapele. The deck is Sapele and Maple over 1/4″ plywood. With her 20hp Suzuki outboard, top speed is just shy of 30MPH. Since then I have had a great time with her putting around on the beautiful lakes here on the Olympic Peninsula.
