I learned to sail about 10 years ago after my brother died. He and I had always talked about going sailing, but we hadn’t ever made the time for it. After his unexpected passing, I took the learn to sail class at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. I fell in love with the sport. I’ve been sailing constantly since then, amassing hundreds of days of sea time, and building skills. One of those skills is wood working. I have bigger boats, but they’re not wood and don’t convey the same kinds of deep set feelings that wooden boats do. I decided around 2019 that it would be a fun project to build a boat. So I looked around for designs, and settled on the twelve foot peapod by Arch Davis Designs. I made this boat in my garage, in varying impulses of creative energy. It took a few years to get her done due to the way life goes. This year, I took her out sailing for the first time, and she handles better than I could have dreamed. I did all the woodworking, metal fabrication, sail making, SANDING, and all the other bits of work. I’m very proud of this build, and I hope you enjoy.
