Houat was built at Evergreen State College based on the Zimmer Design from Wooden Boat Magazine. At some point, it ended up at a Maritime Museum in Anacortes, then given to the Community Boat Project locally. It was restored during the winter of 2019/20. It has since had a new centerboard trunk built as well as new rigging and sails. The boat is heavily built with mahogany planking and oak frames. It tracks exceedingly well since there is a long straight skeg the entire length of the boat. It makes for holding a course with little effort, but coming around needs a large arc to accomplish, usually backing the jib. The boat had four single oar positions but is now set up primarily for a sail with one rowing station.
