Free Willy was born out of the love for the outdoors. Chris Muhs, Daniel Hynes, Derek Sergison, and Alex Steiberger set out to build the boat of their dreams during the dark days of COVID.

After sharing and paddling a McKenzie Driftboat for many years the group was ready to take the next steps and build a dream boat from plywood.

In collaboration with Ben Hayes of Timber Boat Works. We selected his design for an 15’8″ with transom and began the build. After many hours of scrafing joints and fiberglassing it finally took shape.

We finished out with a captains box, liquor cabinet and custom charcuterie board. Cup holders are magnetized to deck to get a good hold on a frosty beverage on bumpy waves.

This boat has run Hell’s Canyon, Lower Salmon, John Day and Deschutes River. We looking forward to many more years of River adventures!
