This year marks the 100th anniversary of Corsair II, a classic 50-foot bridge-deck cruiser designed by noted naval architect Leigh Coolidge and built in 1926 at the Martinac Shipyard in Tacoma, Washington for B. F. Jacobs, an avid predicted-log racer and Tacoma Yacht Club officer. In her early years she raced extensively in Pacific Northwest waters and even appeared in advertising celebrating Jacobs’ seamanship and victories in rough conditions. Today, a century later, Corsair II is undergoing a careful restoration to preserve her historic wooden construction and elegant lines. She will appear at the festival mid-renovation—offering visitors a rare look at a 100-year-old classic both as she has endured through time and as she is being brought back to life for the next century on the water.
