Charles Mower designed Chesuki to race and beat the Alpha Beachcomber dory fleet in Massachusetts in 1906. So successful was this design that some clubs banned her, calling her the X-dory. I have won my fair share of races over the years and particularly love the 26′ and under race on Friday of the festival. I have sailed her in Baha and Canada camping on the beaches as she performs this function well. I added the partial deck to improve seaworthyness in 1992. I built her from Port Orford Cedar, oak and mahogany with bronze screws and copper rivets. This is her third mainsail I’ve sewn for her finally without battens using cream colored Contender fabric and it works great! It is a sliding gunter rig with a curved spar for looks.
