Arianna is a 1970 Alaskan 46 wooden pilothouse cruiser built by American Marine, the Hong Kong yard that later became Grand Banks. Designed for comfortable long-range cruising, she reflects the practical elegance of the early pilothouse trawler tradition.

Over the past quarter century, Arianna has carried her owners north through the Inside Passage—from the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound to the Broughtons and on to Southeast Alaska. Along the way, she has proven herself a steady, capable cruiser, equally at home crossing open sounds or resting quietly in remote anchorages.

Like many wooden boats, Arianna reveals her character slowly. Her teak interior, bronze hardware, and solid construction reflect the craftsmanship of the builders who shaped her more than fifty years ago. Underway, she moves with the gentle, rhythmic motion that wooden hulls are known for—working with the water rather than fighting it.

For her owners, Arianna has become more than a boat. She is part of a living tradition of wooden-boat stewardship—connecting builders, owners, shipwrights, and the communities that keep these vessels alive. That experience also inspired Beyond the Boat, a podcast exploring the stories of people who care for wooden boats and the traditions they carry forward.
