From a side yard in Sausalito CA, this boat was rescued by a notable sailor and lovable dock rat sometime in the 90’s. It was cared for and poured over by someone that had more love in his heart than skills in his pockets and ultimately fell into disrepair by the time Chris, it’s current owner, acquired it from his father’s friend, the Sausalito dock rat. Chris moved to Port Townsend in 2021 and undertook a restoration of the thwart risers, cinching up all riveted fasteners and replacing much of the hardware as well as adding some newer jewelry for handling lines. New thwarts and covering boards were built on the nights and weekends at the Maritime Centers Boatshop where Chris was employed at the time. The restoration was moved to his garage for an extensive varnishing campaign to rebuild the luster and protection of the wood and the interior was boat-sauced in the lower regions to refresh the plank seams and improve the general smell of his camping gear he stores next to his tools. The most recent improvement was the custom milled and hand built sole boards from purple heart to keep his feet and his picnics dry. While this dory has been built with a mast step and center truck, the centerboard and mast hole have been omitted until a time that a proper sailing rig can be built.
