Recycled Skateboard Canoe

I started this build in January of 2020 just before anyone knew the world was about to change. Starting from used skateboards requires a lot more material prep than if I were to just buy some cedar from the lumber store. I built this boat using traditional strip canoe building techniques. Only in this boat each strip has over 30 pieces of skateboard in it to make one full length strip. The seats are made from a stack of three skateboards that I carved in to giving the kind of jaw breaker effect. The non skateboard lumber in the build is birdseye maple, skateboards are made from maple so I figured why not keep the theme going. I thought it would weigh too much to carry and would sit low in the water but to my surprise it floats great and can easily be carried by two people. I’ve still only taken the boat out on the water a few times.
