Grandpa and Grandma would not have met, and we wouldn’t be here, if Grandpa he hadn’t snuck Comrade out one day in 1930 with his friends, and met girls- including my future grandma- at the beach in Manchester, WA, just across from West Seattle. We are glad he did!” -Kathy, owner
The renewal of Comrade retains the spirit of the past and prepares her for her next century of cruising. She recently completed a multi-year revitalization. The August 2022 new hull includes 88 oak frames, all new cedar planks, and a purple heart stem and knee!
Why? When Kathy and Bill bought Comrade from the Birdseye family in 2017, they were buying her back into the family. Kathy’s great grandfather H.W. Davis, Jr had her designed and custom built to his specifications. He was recently widowed and had two teenage sons at home in West Seattle. We think that’s why Comrade originally had 3 bunks and lots of headroom.
We are grateful to both generations of the Birdseye family and the Carl Bolin family for decades of caretaking Comrade. She lives in an Everett, WA boathouse when she is not cruising.
