When I decided to build a wooden boat I knew what I wanted. I was looking through a copy of Wooden Boat Magizine when I saw Doug Hyland’s design, ” Oonagh”. It fit all the reguirements I was looking for with a 12ft. length and a wide 5ft. beam. She was compact with the stabilty and seaworthness I wanted. A simple lug rig with good sailing and rowing qualities with ample storage made her perfect for sailing, rowing, fishing or camping. As I do with most woodworking projects I built a full scale model first. I actually tested the model in our hot tub and was impressed with the results. I ordered the plans from Doug and began construction sparing no expense using only quality materials, Kaya marine plywood, bronze and stainless steel fittings, West System Epoxy, Kaya lumber, CVG fir and teak. We have sailed her on many Oregon lakes and rivers and she has alway treated us well. We hate to part with her, but the time has come.
