I selected this 16 foot New Jersey Gunning skiff design based on her lines and shapely transom, and how I hoped to build her and sail her. The hull planks were at the top of my shop, drying for a decade. I joined an online boat building group, hosted by Bob Emser (#TheArtofBoatBuilding), back in 2021, and through that support group, I expect to get her on the water at the end of 2024. The build plan did not include any details on the cockpit, which I’ve outfitted with a small seat. Some of the old growth Douglass Fir interior comes from my friend Bob Butson, owner of the fabulous coastal cruiser, Freebird. I helped to create some of the bronze at Port Townsend Foundry, and my sail comes from a Cap Code sail-maker (Squeteague Sailmakers). I plan to launch late in the year on the Columbia River, at Hood River, OR.
