This boat is constructed, in part, from cedar recovered from trees killed during the Holiday farm fire, McKenzie valley, Oregon. The construction has elements of building an airplane wing, or assembling a folboat or kayak. Six 14′ longitudinal cedar chines and the the keel are 3/4″ by 1″ western red cedar; the gunwales and inwales are the same thickness but wider. These pieces, with assistance from soaking or hot water, are bent around four notched plywood frames, held in with artificial sinew; they are attached at the stem and transom with screws and epoxy. The polyester fabric is attached at the rails, stem and transom with fabric glue. The fabric is shunk with an iron, and then painted- the paint makes the fabric waterproof. Foam floatation is hidden underneath cedar thwart supports. Rubrails and oarlock pads are from recovered old growth douglas fir; the floorboards are white oak.
The lightweight oar shafts are also made of western red cedar, attached to synthetic spoons. The oars are designed by John Murray, inventor of the Gaco oarlock.
The boat was launched at Munsel lake, near Florence, Oregon, in fall 2023.
