Originally built by Leiter Hokkett in 1938 in Ballard, WA, Freyja is one of two Viking Class sloops designed by Charles D. Mower. Originally designed for coastal New England, there were twelve of these built on the west coast. Initially, this boat first entered our family in 1969 and was sold in 1998. After a few years without her, our family was contacted by Port Townsend shipwright, Marty Loken, who had just bought her after it was partially sunk in Lake Union. After some initial contact between our family and Marty, we decided to buy it back and have him and his crew restore it back to it’s glorious form in his shop on Marrowstone Island. We continued to update this boat after the initial restoration, which took almost 1 1/2 years. She now has updated electrical, new engine, new rigging, and much more. She is a true “pocket cruiser” perfect for gunkholing and visiting local resorts and bays. Currently, she is berthed in the Everett Marina where all three generations of Olson’s are able to see her from our homes and walk over the bridge to visit her. Freyja is truly part of the family and has spent significant time in coastal waters, including trips to the Gulf Islands and regular afternoon sails in Puget Sound and Port Gardner Bay.
