Scout is a 38′ New Jersey Style wood Sportfish style yacht (Post switched to fiberglass around 1972). There are very few wooden versions left. Scout is carvel planked in Philippine mahogany on the bottom and cedar sided. Frames are oak. Original 427 Chris Craft engines. Scout came the west coast in the mid 70’s after originally being registered in Margate New Jersey. Eventually coming to British Columbia, We (current owners) have had her in Seattle since 2001.
These are really neat boats and share some lineage to Egg Harbor (Russel Post was an original partner in Egg Harbor) and some other New Jersey style sportfish boats. Over 22 years of ownership, we have done some hull, interior restoration and other upgrades but Scout remains in mostly original condition. It seems very few of these early Post sportfish boats remain, especially on the west coast. Compared to other similar New Jersey made boats, these were very limited production.
