One summer vacation my Uncle Bud Nuemeyer let me steer his 1953 Wagemaker 13ft runabout. It was a beautiful mahogany boat and we loved our uncle, who also could ride a bike sitting backwards on the handle bars. I will never forget steering towards the shore and seeing all my brothers watching me dock that beautiful all wood boat. I decided to try boat building to provide my grandson with a similar experience and so I might test my abilities to build a larger family boat. Our boat is nearly finished and being readied for the foredeck installation, brightwork and paint, As there is warmer weather coming this week, I expect to finish the epoxy work and have the boat finished and launched by the first week of April.
My build has caused a lot of interest in anyone who sees it and I would like to encourage the older people who always wanted to try to build their dream to ahead and give it a go, I have enjoyed every minute I’ve spent bringing this project from raw wood to what will hopefully be a beautiful example of fine wood boat building.
