Built in Frederikshavn, Denmark in 1903 by Nielson & Son and worked as a North Sea fishing boat for several decades. Served in both world wars, 1st under Danish flag and commandeered by Germany in 2nd. After WW2 was registered in Danish Navy. Sailed to BC in 1978 by Peter Watson, then worked as a fish packer for 20 years in BC waters. “50% Canadian” with over 32 Canadian trees (most milled by hand). 64’ on deck and 79’ over all is gaffed rigged and carries 7 sails when fully canvassed. The Providence now offers daily charter cruisers in B and is the flagship of the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society where she is moored at the City of Richmond’s Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site (www.richmond.ca/britannia).
