Thelonius is a one-off custom design. Built in 1953, she looks 1920’s. A Portland Oregon dentist wanted a ‘traditional-style’ boat, so Ed Monk, Sr adapted an earlier plan. The result is a 1920’s look but with more living space, more head room, more visibility, more storage than a would typically have been in a 1920’s design. Unique features include glue-wedged seams rather than traditional caulking, and an engine linked to a v-drive, allowing it to be mounted beneath the aft cockpit (rather than under the wheelhouse). All water and fuel tanks are monel, an alloy of nickel and copper. The original secondary small get-home engine has been removed.
