Wood Duck

In Festival Boats 2021

Wood Duck is our portal to visit humpbacks, orcas, bears, and wolves in spectacularly wild parts of the Northwest coast. It is often the smallest boat at the dock when we’re moving along the Inside Passage, and the boat attracts a lot of attention for the workboat design and obvious craftsmanship. This Devlin Black Crown is one of two that originated the model, built side by side in Sam’s shop in 1994. The stitch-and-glue construction and meticulous building practices resulted in a strong boat that rides well and can handle extreme weather. We have commissioned several upgrade projects to keep the navigation instruments up-to-date and improve the boat’s performance and livability. The original 185 Hp Volvo D4 allows us to cruise at about 17 knots at a little less than five gallons of diesel per hour. With 130 gallons of fuel capacity, the boat provides the speed and range to bring the British Columbia coast into reach for a two-week cruise, with interior features that make even longer trips very comfortable.
