Quinque was built in the mid-1980’s on Galiano Island at the Whaler Bay Boatyard by boatbuilder Greg Foster. She measures nineteen feet long and is constructed almost entirely of Yellow Cedar. Quinque is modelled after a fishing boat once common to the Shetland Islands; a Sixareen, or ‘six-oared‘ working vessel. Quinque sports a simple, schooner, standing lugsail rig. She was built for the Clark family of Victoria, British Columbia. The word “Quinque” is Latin for ‘“Five”. The Clark family have five beautiful girls, and so the boat’s name came to be ‘Quinque’.
