Thunder child was built on Dead Man’s Island in Vancouver Bc in the late 1960s, she was built in 2 years, when launched in 1971 the Canadian navy built a ramp to get her in the water.
The original owners sold thunder child to follow career opportunities and raise a family, the second owner had her for 49 years, they eventually found Barry and Hailly and they struck a deal! The current owners of Thunder Child are the third owners.
She is named after the War Of The Worlds Steamer “Thunder Child” which sacrifices itself to take down the alien Tripods.
Since receiving the boat in September of last year, Barry and Hailly have done cosmetic and structural work to her and lived aboard full time, and you can watch the journey of them and their boats on YouTube by searching Sailor Barry.
