Isswat was built in 1948 in Whiskey Cove, on Pennock Island just across the water from Ketchikan, Alaska. She spent her early life as a troller, gillnetter and log camp boat in the waters of Southeast Alaska. She was brought down to Seattle around 1970. Then worked as a troller off the coast of washington and as a tug in her off season till 1988. Isswat did a brief stint off the coast of Oregon and was brought back to the Puget sound a bit disheveled and broken and sold for scrap. Since the early 90’s she has gotten a bit of care and love to bring her back to her former glory from each and every owner.
In 2018 I started restoring the boat so that she could once again fish and work as a tug part time in the waters of the pacific northwest. Isswat has new sistered frames, been refastened, all new decks, stern lifts, fuel tanks, break beams, bulwarks, repowered, new wiring, plumbing, exhaust and new interior. I have tried to hold true to her original design and intent with making modern improvements. Isswat still holds the very fine line of a yachty utilitarian work boat that serves the purpose of whatever she is asked for.
