2009 Shipwrights Regatta results

2/8/09 • Regattas News

A calm morning and forecast for the first WBF Regatta of the New Year, meant a few folks skipped the skippers meeting, but with this race especially, "the more, the merrier".

Myron Gauger provides the following report:

19 boats signed up at the skipper's meeting, more showed up on the water and a few scratched before the start.   The skipper's self-selected to participate in a "Cruising" or "Racing" class with 10 choosing Racing and 9 choosing Cruising. According to the report, "It seems a good way to class for this race."

A course with the windward mark to the north was set since what little wind there was often was from that direction. For 2 hours there was not enough wind for a start. Just as we were beginning discuss abandoning the race, a breeze started building from the Southeast. Jack & Elizabeth Becker in "Emaline" were kind enough to move one tet a quarter mile for the windward mark, while the mark boat shifted another tet and moved the starting pin to other side of the committee boat. Meanwhile an announcement was made to the fleet & within a short period the racing began. Perhaps due to the long delay, some boats withdrew and several boats that had chosen to sail in the "Racing" group took the first start with the "Cruising" group.
