Festival attendance up 15%, sunny skies for final day

9/13/09 • Festival News

A new record will likely be set by end of Sunday, if attendance on the first two days of Wooden Boat Festival continues.  Friday's numbers were 15% over any previous first day in the history of the festival.

Sunny skies and perfect weather helped. Saturday morning's rowing regatta had perfect calm winds, and by afternoon, winds reached 15-17 knots, making the Schooners happy as they sailed around the bay and along the waterfornt in the NW Schooner Cup regatta.

Stages were packed at each demonstration and presentation, but the expanded campus gave ample room for those strolling the grounds, the docks and enjoying the close proximity to a record number of boats in the marina (all of which are open to go aboard) and on land.

Festival opens at 9:00 today and runs through 5:00.  Tickets are $12. Kids under 12 are free. The grand Sail By of all festival boats starts at 3:30 on the Port Townsend waterfront!
